Club - 2007 Minutes
Outer Banks Running Club
Quarterly RRCA Meeting
August 11, 2007
At SandBar 5K Race/Kitty Hawk
MINUTES:
1. Welcome to first annual picnic and third
quarter 2007 meeting of OBRC at the magnificent 6th running of the
OBX SandBar 5K race. It was a great event with the wind at our backs
the second half of the race, and a super fund raiser for the Outer
Banks Relief Foundation. Thanks for coming out.
2. Club accepted minutes of the June 13, 2007
meeting
3. Ed gave the treasurer report due to the
absence of Jim Snyder, who is injured. The July 1, 2007 checking
account balance was $1,897.94, which was the same balance as
throughout June. The ending balance on July 30 was $3,257.88 due to
additions from the Killer Dunes Two Mile race on July 4, and new
memberships. There were reductions of $1,227.06 in the form of two
payments. The first was $670 to the Outer Banks Cancer Support
Group, a beneficiary of the July 4 race. The other was $546.86 to Ed
Beckley as reimbursement for expenses for the July 4 race. Ed noted
that a $670 check for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, another July
4 race beneficiary, has not yet been cashed. Jim had also reported
to the Board via email that another $53 would be deposited by the
time of the meeting, which included late race registration and
membership fees. The club's share of the profits for the July 4 race
were over $700.
4. Since we do not have a VP for PR and
Marketing, Ed reported that the local news media supported the
Killer Dunes race before and after it, running promotional public
service announcements, and also running photos and results
afterwards. He also said the web site put up by LK Associates is
current and outstanding.
5. VP and Coach Ariadna Vuconovic said she
monitors the back end of the web site daily, and we receive many
inquiries from runners the nation over, who will be vacationing here
and want to run with the club members, or who are asking for good
places to run. Ari, who is two weeks from giving birth, is still
holding Wednesday 5 p.m. track workouts at First Flight High School,
and said she is looking forward to training increasing as we draw
closer to the fall marathon season.
6. Old business -- Ed noted that with the funds
we now have in the bank, he would like the officers to consider what
supplies the club should order, so we can continue to conduct high
quality races locally.
7. New business -- Ed said that club member
Mike Mitchell has volunteered to set up a points and awards system
for the club next year, to honor members who take the time to run in
our club events, and those who volunteer to stage the events. Ed
mentioned that he has asked Board member Frank Ausband, and club
member Laura Cortez, to serve as a nominating committee for club
officers for 2008. The committee would develop of list of possible
nominees, which they would bring before the membership at the next
meeting. If you are interested in serving as an officer or on a
committee, please contact fbausband@yahoo.com or laura.cortez@charter.net
and let them know. Ed also said the pub crawl race slated for
September is changed to a Hallowe'en race in late October. The race
will be staged by the Outer Banks Team in Training, as a fund raiser
for the team. The location isn't known yet. The race is changed for
a couple reasons. First, there was a question about associating an
event directly with alcohol. And there is also going to be another
new race in September, which Mike Kelly's hospitality group is
putting on, with a pirate theme. In our quest to try and have one
race per month on the Outer Banks, we felt it would be better to
move our race to October, as a tune-up run for the OBX Marathon. We
also reminded that the Kitty Hawk Heritage Day Race is slated for
September 29 at 9 a.m. at Barrier Island Fitness Center. Go to
www.townofkittyhawk.org under Heritage Day to download an entry
form.
8. Meeting adjourned. Let's eat.
9. Next meeting is Dec. 3 at a place to be
determined. |
