1. The club became a 501C3 federal non-profit organization
making us exempt from federal taxes. We also now have our
own credit card for club equipment purchases.
2. Our treasury is flush with funds which will enable us to
purchase excellent equipment with which to stage races in
2008.
3. Our membership has grown from 8 members in 2005, to 24 in
2006 and more than 70 in 2007.
4. We had two outside speakers make presentations at club
meetings this year... Mike Kelly who gave us an overview of
improvements to the OBX Marathon, and Tommy Schuster the
proprietor of Athlete's Foot in Chesapeake, who demonstrated
the high-tech kangaroo training product.
5. We added several new club races including the Run for
their Lives 5K, Jingle Bell 5K, Killer Dunes 2-Miler,
Spooktacular 5K and Sweetheart 8K, while working with race
directors of established races to make them sanctioned
events of our club, including the Kitty Hawk Heritage Day
5K, Earth Day 8K, Lake Mattamuskeet 7-Miler, Nags Head Woods
5K and the Advice 5K.
6. We trained several new race directors who devoted many
weeks of their lives putting together these events,
including: Amy Brown, Laura Cortez, Yevette Kirkpatrick, Ann
Wunderly.
7. We conducted free children's fun runs in five of our club
races this year.
8. The club amended the bylaws to add officer positions and
to create committee structures. Each officer is a member of
the club's Board of Directors and all except the president
and immediate past president hold the title of vice
president and chairman of their committee, including
marketing, finance, secretarial and coaching and training.
9. Ariadna set up a formal structure of club training runs
three times a week.
10. Our first club uniform will be unveiled this weekend at
the Jingle Bell 5K, long-sleeved T-shirts with our club
logo, and the logos of the RRCA/USATF.
11. We had our first club picnic scheduled after the Sandbar
5K, but the weather was pretty bad. Some of our members have
begun going out to breakfast together after the training
runs on an informal basis.
12. We've developed an email broadcast system enabling us to
communicate with our members.
13. We've developed an incredible, top of the line web site
that is the key way we have been communicating our events,
training etc. to the world, thanks to a generous gift by LK
Associates in setting up the web pages, and charging us a
minimal yearly fee that includes all our updates.
www.outerbanksrunningclub.org
is becoming the in-place for runners worldwide who want to
know about running when they come to vacation on the Outer
Banks.
14. We purchased an ULTRAK printer/timer so we can get fast
accurate results in our races.
15. We were the conduit for a free public running shoe
clinic at the YMCA and the Outer Banks Running Company.
16. We helped the Kelly's Fun Run by putting out the word
for volunteers and were able to raise a couple hands to help
there.
17. We secured two outstanding sponsors: The Outer Banks
Running Company store which gives us a 20 percent discount,
and Athlete's Foot which gives us 10 percent.
